Place WAV in the C:\WINDOWS folder in your Windows 3.1 environment. I added the "Welcome to the D&D World" WAV file as the Windows 3.1 startup sound. Navigate to Program Manager -> Main -> Control Panel - > Desktop Set Pattern to NONE and Wallpaper to VGALOGO.BMPģ. Place VGALOGO.BMP in the C:\WINDOWS folder in your Windows 3.1 environment. I changed the Desktop image to a HIGH-RES 320x400 image of the Core Rule Box Art so it sort of looks like the splash screen image goes from low-res to high-res seamlessly. If everything went right, you should see the new splash-screen.Ģ. Run the WINLOGO.EXE file, select the VGALOGO.RLE file, and answer YES when it asks to merge with the WIN.COM file. Make a BACKUP of your WIN.COM before doing this so you can easily restore it from your actual Windows environment. Calmira II has to be run within the Windows 3.1 environment.
You will need to use the Calmira II 3.31 program found at to do this. Place the VGALOGO.RLE file somewhere in the Windows 3.1 environment like C:\TEMP
The Windows 3.1 splash-screen is a LOW-RES, 320x400, BMP file renamed to an RLE file that is merged to the WIN.COM file Change the Windows 3.1 splash screen logo to that of the Core Rules Box Art.
I can provide the images if one should want to do this part.ġ. ANY/ALL files listed below will need to be put somewhere within the Windows 3.1 environment before starting DOSBox/Windows 3.1. I wanted the whole DOSBox/Windows3.1 installation (it's small) to be solely dedicated to the Core Rules program so I went even further.

Install the Core Rules video player by clicking on View Village Tour within the Core Rules software. Install the Win32s setup program when it asks at the end of the Core Rules installation (DO NOT INSTALL THIS PROGRAM PRIOR TO THIS POINT!!!)ġ1. This will begin installing Core Rules from the mounted CD.ġ0. Double-click the SETUP.EXE file on mounted CD in the D drive. You should see the Core Rules CD mounted (if the paths from the DOSBox.CONF are correct) on the D:\ drive. Within Windows 3.1, Open up Program Manager -> Main -> File Manager. IMGMOUNT D C:\Emulators\DOSBox\DOS\CoreRules.iso -t isoĨ. # Lines in this section will be run at startup.

The Core Rules ISO must be somewhere within the Windows 3.1 environment such as the c:\ root which is how mine is set. Your directory paths to the ISO may differ than mine so change them accordingly. Paste the below command lines to the END of a DOSBox.CONF file so it launches Windows 3.1 with the Core Rules CD-ROM mounted: Open/Edit the DOSBox.CONF within the DOBox folder and change the video values to the following:ħ. DO NOT INSTALL THE Win32s PROGRAM UNTIL MUCH LATER!!!Ħ.

I want Core Rules to look like it runs completely alone as if it were naturally installed into Windows 10 without seeing all the Emulator/VM screens. If I find a way to add images of this process, I will do so.ĮDIT: I think there is a bit of confusion as to why I choose to run the program this way. I am sure there will be edits to this post as I find mistakes, answer questions, or find better ways to communicate the process. Here's a video showing AD&D Core Rules 1.0 running from LaunchBox: Being a programmer, I actually enjoyed the process and felt so victorious when I finally got it working. This may not be the only or the best way but it works fantastic for me. This is the way I used to get AD&D Core Rules 1.0 running perfect on my Windows 10 machine.
